A simple recipe for flavorful ground beef taco filling, perfect for a quick and satisfying weeknight dinner. This recipe focuses on creating a well-seasoned, slightly saucy beef that pairs perfectly with your favorite taco toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 12 taco shells (hard or soft)
  • Optional toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  3. Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the beef mixture. Pour in the water and stir to combine.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  5. Warm taco shells according to package directions.
  6. Serve the seasoned ground beef in the taco shells with your desired toppings.

Notes

  • For a homemade taco seasoning blend, combine 1 tablespoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon cumin, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon paprika, and a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • If you prefer a less greasy filling, opt for lean ground beef.
  • This beef filling is also great for burritos, nachos, or taco salads.
