Create a warm, gooey, and comforting dessert with minimal effort. This caramel apple dump cake uses just four simple ingredients and requires no mixing, making it perfect for potlucks or a quick weeknight treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup caramel bits or chips
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) if baking. If using a slow cooker, lightly grease a 6-quart slow cooker insert.
  2. Pour the apple pie filling into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish for the oven, or into the bottom of the slow cooker insert.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apple layer. Do not mix the layers.
  4. Scatter the caramel bits evenly over the cake mix layer.
  5. Slowly drizzle the melted butter over the entire surface, aiming to cover the cake mix as much as possible.
  6. For Oven Method: Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  7. For Slow Cooker Method: Cover and cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours or on HIGH for 1.5 to 2 hours, until the topping is set and golden.
  8. Let the dump cake cool slightly before serving warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute the yellow cake mix with butter pecan cake mix.
  • If you do not have caramel bits, you can use 1 cup of soft caramel candies, unwrapped, or use a thick caramel sauce drizzled over the top before the butter.
  • This dessert is excellent served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a true comfort food experience.
