Create a warm, gooey cherry dessert with this incredibly simple cherry dump cake recipe. You only need three pantry staples for this no-mix, foolproof bake that tastes like homemade cobbler.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Pour the entire can of cherry pie filling into the prepared baking dish. Spread the filling evenly across the bottom.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the top of the cherry filling. Do not mix the layers.
  4. Arrange the cold butter slices evenly over the dry cake mix layer.
  5. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the cherry filling is bubbly around the edges.
  6. Let the cherry dump cake cool slightly before serving warm, ideally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute the yellow cake mix with white cake mix or even a butter pecan cake mix.
  • If you prefer a slightly crispier topping, chill the butter slices in the freezer for 10 minutes before placing them on the cake mix.
  • Serve this easy fruit dessert warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate comfort treat.
