Make this simple, one-dish cherry dump cake featuring a rich, tangy cream cheese layer baked right in. It requires minimal effort for a delicious, moist dessert perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 (15 ounce) package yellow cake mix (dry mix only)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the entire can of cherry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, egg, and vanilla extract together until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Set this mixture aside.
  4. Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the layer of cherry pie filling. Do not mix the cake mix into the cherries.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix layer.
  6. Drop small spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture randomly over the top of the buttered cake mix layer.
  7. Sprinkle the 1/4 cup of granulated sugar over the entire top surface.
  8. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the cream cheese is set.
  9. Let the cake cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, you can substitute half of the yellow cake mix with white cake mix.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate cherry dump cake experience.
  • If you prefer a firmer cream cheese layer, chill the cream cheese mixture slightly before dropping it onto the cake mix.
