Classic Cherry Dump Cake Using Pie Filling

Create a simple, delicious cherry dump cake using canned pie filling and boxed cake mix. This recipe requires minimal mixing for a fast, sweet dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Pour the entire can of cherry pie filling into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the layer of cherry pie filling. Do not mix.
  4. If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts evenly over the dry cake mix layer.
  5. Slowly drizzle the melted butter evenly over the entire surface of the cake mix. Try to cover as much of the dry mix as possible.
  6. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly around the edges.
  7. Let the dump cake cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer topping, substitute half of the butter with melted coconut oil.
  • Serve this fast fruit dessert warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the best experience.
  • This recipe works well for potlucks because it is easy to make ahead and transports well.
  • If you want a different flavor, substitute the cherry pie filling with apple or blueberry pie filling.
