A simple, balanced three-ingredient margarita recipe with tequila, fresh lime juice, and orange liqueur. Learn the perfect ratio and technique for a crisp cocktail.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz Blanco Tequila
  • 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 0.75 oz Orange Liqueur (Cointreau recommended)
  • Optional: Salt for rim
  • Optional: Lime wedge for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare your glass: If salting the rim, run a lime wedge around the edge of your glass. Dip the rim into a plate of coarse salt. Fill the glass with ice.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, add tequila, fresh lime juice, and orange liqueur.
  3. Add ice to the shaker.
  4. Shake well until the shaker is frosty on the outside.
  5. Strain: Strain the mixture into your prepared glass filled with ice.
  6. Garnish: Garnish with a lime wedge if desired.

Notes

  • For a sweeter margarita, increase the orange liqueur to 1 oz.
  • For a tarter margarita, increase the lime juice to 1.25 oz.
  • Use good quality ingredients for the best flavor. Blanco tequila is recommended for its clean taste.
  • You can serve this margarita ‘up’ (without ice) by straining into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
