Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 pound bowtie or penne pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup beef broth
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of the starchy pasta water before draining. Set the drained pasta aside.
While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a spoon and cook until browned completely. Drain off any excess grease.
Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant.
Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook for 2 minutes, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the heavy cream and let the sauce warm through for 2 minutes. Do not let it boil rapidly.
Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and creamy. If the sauce seems too thick, add a few tablespoons of the reserved pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.
Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the beef sauce. Toss everything together until the pasta is fully coated.
Serve immediately. Top each serving with extra Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, if using.
Notes
For a high protein boost, use lean ground beef (90% lean or higher).
If you prefer a different shape, this creamy garlic beef pasta works well with shells or rotini pasta.
You can add 1/2 cup of frozen peas or spinach during the last 5 minutes of simmering the sauce for added vegetables.
