Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a 9-inch deep-dish pizza pan or a 10-inch cast iron skillet.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, salt, and sugar.
  3. Pour in the olive oil and warm water. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Press the dough into the prepared pan, pushing it up the sides to create a crust.
  6. In a bowl, combine the crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
  7. Spread the mozzarella cheese evenly over the dough.
  8. Layer the cooked sausage, mushrooms, green bell pepper, and onion over the cheese.
  9. Spoon the tomato sauce evenly over the toppings.
  10. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the sauce.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the sauce is bubbly.
  12. Let the pizza cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, you can pre-bake the dough for 10 minutes before adding toppings.
  • Feel free to customize your toppings with your favorite ingredients.
  • This pizza is best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be reheated in the oven.
