Bake intensely chocolatey, dense, and moist brownies with a crackly top and gooey center. This recipe is perfect for satisfying your chocolate cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder (optional, enhances chocolate flavor)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan, or line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Stir in the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and espresso powder (if using) until well combined.
  3. Whisk in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached (not wet batter).
  8. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For extra fudgy brownies, do not overbake. The center should still be slightly gooey.
  • Using good quality cocoa powder and chocolate chips will significantly improve the flavor.
  • Allowing the brownies to cool completely before cutting will result in cleaner slices.
