A nostalgic and creamy holiday favorite, this classic green bean casserole is topped with crispy fried onions for a perfect Thanksgiving side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans cut green beans, drained
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/3 cups French fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the drained green beans, condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.
  3. Pour the green bean mixture into an ungreased 1.5-quart baking dish.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove the casserole from the oven and stir. Top with 1 cup of the French fried onions.
  6. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the onions are golden brown.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining 1/3 cup of French fried onions over the top before serving.

Notes

  • For a fresher taste, you can use 1.5 pounds of fresh blanched green beans instead of canned.
  • To make your own mushroom sauce, sauté mushrooms and onions, then thicken with a roux and milk.
  • This casserole is a perfect complement to your holiday meal, similar to how a good meal planning service can simplify your week.
