A simple and delicious grilled cheese sandwich recipe with a crispy, buttery exterior and a gooey, melted cheese center.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices bread (sourdough or white bread recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 slices American cheese
  • 1 slice cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  3. Layer the American cheese slices and then the cheddar cheese slice on top of the bread in the skillet.
  4. Place the second slice of bread on top of the cheese, butter-side up.
  5. Grill for 3-5 minutes, until the bottom slice of bread is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
  6. Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula.
  7. Grill for another 3-5 minutes, until the second side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted and gooey.
  8. Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For an extra crispy sandwich, you can use mayonnaise instead of butter on the outside of the bread.
  • Experiment with different cheese combinations for varied flavors.
  • Add a thin slice of tomato or a piece of cooked bacon inside for a variation.
