Ingredients
Scale
1 hoagie roll
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 cup chopped pepperoncini peppers
4 ounces thinly sliced Italian deli meats (like ham, salami, capicola)
2 slices provolone cheese
1/4 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
2 tablespoons chopped red onion
2 tablespoons chopped tomato
Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat your oven or broiler.
Slice the hoagie roll lengthwise, but not all the way through, creating a hinge.
Toast the inside of the hoagie roll until golden brown.
In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, oregano, and chopped pepperoncini peppers. Season with salt and pepper.
Layer the deli meats and provolone cheese onto the bottom half of the toasted hoagie roll.
Place the hoagie under the broiler or in the oven for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the meat is warm.
In a separate bowl, combine shredded lettuce, red onion, and tomato. Toss with a tablespoon of the dressing.
Spoon the chopped salad mixture over the melted cheese and meat.
Drizzle with additional dressing as desired.
Close the sandwich and serve immediately.
Notes
For a low-carb option, skip the hoagie roll and serve the meat, cheese, and salad mixture in a bowl.
To prevent soggy bread, toast the hoagie roll well and add the salad mixture just before serving.
Experiment with different deli meats and cheeses for variations.
This sandwich is great for game day or parties.
