A festive and fun Halloween appetizer, this Mummy Brie is a wheel of brie cheese wrapped in puff pastry strips to look like a mummy, baked until golden and gooey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8 ounce) wheel of brie cheese
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 small black olives, sliced (for eyes)
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons jam (such as raspberry or fig)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. If using jam, spread it evenly over the top of the brie wheel.
  3. Unfold the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut the puff pastry into thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide, using a knife or pizza cutter.
  4. Place the brie wheel in the center of the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Arrange the puff pastry strips over the brie to resemble mummy bandages, leaving a small space for the eyes. You can crisscross the strips or lay them parallel.
  6. Use a few extra strips to create a mummy face shape.
  7. Brush the puff pastry strips with the beaten egg wash for a golden finish.
  8. Place the sliced olives in the designated eye area.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the brie is soft and melty.
  10. Let it cool slightly before serving. Serve with crackers or bread slices.

Notes

  • For a spooky touch, you can use capers or small pieces of black olive for the mummy’s eyes.
  • Ensure the puff pastry is well-chilled before cutting to make it easier to work with.
  • Adjust baking time based on your oven and desired level of melted cheese.
