Ingredients
Scale
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
1 teaspoon sea salt, plus more for topping
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
To make the caramel: In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, brown sugar, and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the sea salt.
Carefully spoon dollops of the caramel sauce over the brownie batter in the pan.
Pour the remaining brownie batter over the caramel and gently swirl with a knife to create a marbled effect.
Sprinkle the top with additional sea salt.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
For a quicker caramel, you can use dulce de leche instead of making it from scratch.
Ensure your caramel does not burn; watch it closely while cooking.
Overbaking will result in dry brownies; aim for moist crumbs on a toothpick.
