Make perfectly crispy, low-oil sweet potato chips using your air fryer. This recipe delivers a satisfying crunch for a healthy, guilt-free snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the sweet potatoes well. Do not peel them.
  2. Slice the sweet potatoes very thinly, aiming for 1/16 inch thickness. Use a mandoline slicer for best results.
  3. Soak the sliced sweet potatoes in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes. This removes excess starch and helps them crisp up.
  4. Drain the water and thoroughly pat the slices dry with paper towels. They must be completely dry before cooking.
  5. In a bowl, toss the dry slices with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until evenly coated.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Place the seasoned slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Work in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  8. Air fry for 10 to 15 minutes, shaking the basket every 5 minutes, until the chips are golden brown and crisp. Cooking time varies by air fryer model.
  9. Remove from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. They will crisp up more as they cool.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can soak the slices for up to an hour.
  • If you do not have an air fryer, you can use the oven method: Spread slices on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • You can substitute the seasoning with smoked paprika or chili powder for a different flavor profile.
  • These chips are a great alternative when considering healthy snack options compared to traditional meal planning snacks.
