  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, granulated sugar, and butter.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to low and continue to cook, stirring constantly, for 5 minutes. Do not let it scorch.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips until completely melted and smooth.
  7. Stir in the vanilla extract and nuts, if using.
  8. Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared baking pan.
  9. Spread evenly with a spatula.
  10. Let the fudge cool completely at room temperature for at least 2-3 hours, or until firm.
  11. Once firm, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the fudge out of the pan.
  12. Cut into squares and serve.
